Athletics: Boston Indoor Games - Gail Devers highlights heavy-medal hurdles field

BOSTON, Massachusetts – Gail Devers, three-time Olympic gold medalist and reigning World Indoor champion at the 60-meter hurdles, will lead a stellar hurdles field at the adidas Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 31, organizers announced today.

At 37, Devers shows no signs of slowing. Last year, in addition to winning the US and World Indoor titles, she twice set a new 60H American Record (7.78, 7.74), the latter in the semifinals of the indoor nationals on this same track in Boston. In doing so, she added to a resume that includes three World Championship gold medals and an amazing nine US outdoor titles at the 100-meter hurdles dating back to 1991, a year after she recovered from a bout with Graves Disease that threatened her career.

Among those challenging Devers will be Melissa Morrison, the 2000 Olympic bronze medalist; Miesha McKelvy-Jones, the 2003 World Outdoor bronze medalist; and Anjanette Kirkland, the 2001 World Indoor and Outdoor gold medalist who is returning after giving birth to a daughter in May. As a group, the four women have won 16 Olympic or World Championship medals.

They join a meet lineup that already includes Haile Gebrselassie, Stacy Dragila, Derartu Tulu, Tirunesh Dibaba, David Krummenacker and Allyson Felix.

The ninth-annual adidas Boston Indoor Games will be held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, 1350 Tremont St., Boston, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 from 6-7 p.m. The meet will again be the first stop on USA Track & Field’s Indoor Golden Spike Tour.
