Athletics: Toomey named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Jen Toomey has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting a world leading performance in the 800m Sunday in Boston, Massachusetts.

The 2002 U.S. Outdoor 800m runner-up, Toomey ran 2:00.34 to win the women’s 800m at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.

Other world leading performances by Americans over the weekend included Kendall Stevens’ and Tim Harden’s 6.60 time in the 60m, Leo Bookman’s 20.81 in the 200m, Christian Cantwell’s 20.82m/68-3.75 in the shot put, Carrie Tollefson’s 4:37.38 in the mile, Melissa Morrison’s 8.03 in the 60m hurdles, Stacy Dragila’s 4.71m/15-5.5 in the pole vault and Anna Mahon’s 23.12m/75-10.25 in the 20lb weight throw.

Now in its fourth year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
