Athletics: Salmini Films' Marathons+ Highlights Marathons from Around The Globe

The February 2004 one-hour episode of the sports series "Marathons+" was released today for distribution by Salmini Films/sportfilm.com and TWI. TWI is the largest independent producer, packager and distributor of sports programming in the world. The series currently airs in over 45 countries.

The "Marathons+" program is the official broadcast series of AIMS, the Association of International Marathons and Road Races. This episode of "Marathons+" is packed with highlights and news items from the top marathons and road races around the world.

The following highlights are included in this month's one-hour episode:

· The festive spirit of the island of Jamaica pours forth in the annual Reggae Marathon, one of the top events in the Carribean.

· Moving across the Pacific, the mood is no less entertaining in the Monaco and Riviera Marathon, along the hot and happening Mediterranian coastline.

· 250 kilometers in seven days.the Augrabies Extreme Marathon in South Africa is an adventure and endurace test of the highest order.

· A great spot to hang out and do some serious beach time, and maybe run a 10k or a marathon in the meantime, it's Run Barbados.

· And introducing a new regular feature on Marathons+..Great Marathon Champions. The producers of Marathons+ have selected some of the top marathon champions of the past three or four decades and will profile their outstanding careers and great victories in this and upcoming episodes.

o Alberto Salazar.a New York and Boston champion, and a world record holder, Alberto was the most dominant marathoner of his era.

o Another great marathon champion.Tegla Loroupe of Kenya.the first African woman to win a major marathon.a world record holder and an ambassador for the sport.

o At his best, Steve Jones of Wales was at the top of the marathoning world with victories in major races and a world record. When he was race ready, the rest were running for second place.

o Grete Waitz of Norway led the charge for women's runners and set three world records in her first three New York victories.

o Ibraham Hussein, was among the first of the great Kenyas runners to burst upon the marathon scene, with three victories in Honolulu and a breakthrough win in New York, plus multiple major road race victories.

· While featuring the Great Marathon Champions as listed above, many other great athletes make their appearance in this episode of Marathons+, including 1984 Olympic Marathon champion Carlos Lopes, World Cup marathoner Rob de Castella, two-time Boston winner Geoff Smith, former 10,000 meter world record holder Mark Nenow, Boston and New York winner Ingrid Kristiansen, and American star Patti-Lyons Catalano.
