Posted: February 5, 2004 Triathlon: Simon Lessing Signs With Cytosport Funny, how priorities change when the race course grows to 140 miles from 32 miles. This year Simon Lessing is Ironman focused and his priority is suddenly on nutrition. “The two highest hurdles for my first Ironman race will be learning the line between over and under training, and getting my nutrition right,” said Lessing. “There is nothing simple about racing Ironman but there are at least two basic foundational facts about racing it: Train to arrive at the starting line healthy, and eat and drink to arrive at the finish line with energy left to burn. While nutrition is important for shorter distance races, its important X 10 at Ironman. Well trained athletes can bull their way through a two-hour race. This isn’t possible at longer races where nutritionally-smarter athletes regularly beat better athletes.” Lessing recently signed a sponsorship and endorsement contract with CytoSport, makers of Cytomax nutritional products. “I was looking for a comprehensive line with products that are both palatable and provide nutritional assurance that I’ll make best use of my abilities. The entire line of CytoSport Products is impressive. Gulp N’ Go Energy Gel was the clincher for me, “said Lessing. “Gels are the one nutritional product that you can take in quantities on the race course. Gulp N’ Go’s thicker texture is easier to use than other gels – and it’s got enough bang to get you to the finish line.” “Simon is a great fit for us” said Eric Gilsenan, Sponsorship Coordinator for CytoSport. “CytoMax’s first year was 1989, the same year Simon burst on professional the triathlon scene. Since then athletes and sports drinks have come and gone but like Simon we’re not only still around but better and stronger than ever and looking forward to great things in 2004.” For further information on CytoSport products browse www.cytosport.com.
