(07-Feb) -- Running in cold 36 degree conditions, Alan Culpepper came from behind to with the US Olympic Marathon Trials in 2:11:40 today in Birmingham, Alabama. Meb Keflezighi of Mammoth Lakes, California, finished second in 2:11:46, with Dan Browne of Portland, Oregon third in 2:12:01. All times are unofficial. Brian Sell of Rochester Hills, Michigan, took control of the race at mile seven, reaching the half-way point in 1:06:19, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the field, before fading in the 22nd mile. Culpepper, who clocked 1:07:04 at the half, ran the second half in 1:04:36. Trent Briney, a teammate of Sell's at the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, finished fourth in 2:12:34, nearly nine minutes faster than his previous best performance.
