Athletics: Runners Raise Pints of Killian's Irish Red Lager and Charity Dollars for St. Patrick's Day

Killian's Sponsors Ten-City Race Series with Irish Festivities and St. Pat's Pint O'Thon for Charity

January 12, 2004 - (GOLDEN, Colo.) - From free pints of Killian's® Irish Red™ Lager to post-race Irish celebrations and dollars raised for charity, Killian's is helping runners celebrate this St Patrick's Day in true Irish style. Through Killian's sponsorship of a ten-race series from March 13-20, 2004, race participants can enjoy a free, Killian's-hosted Irish celebration while raising awareness and dollars for Share Our Strength, one of the nation's leading anti-hunger organizations.

The race series and onsite celebrations are part of Killian's 'St. Pat's Pint O'Thon,' a nationwide campaign that is challenging consumers to 'Raise a Million Pints for Charity' this St. Patrick's Day. Killian's will donate $50,000 from sales of products during February and March to the Share Our Strength organization.

Share Our Strength invests money in food assistance, job training, economic development programs and advocacy to make a lasting impact on the problem of hunger in the United States. Runners can also purchase Pint O'Thon wall-shamrocks at their favorite pubs for $1 and all proceeds will go to Share Our Strength.

"We are pleased to be able to give back to the community while contributing to a very worthy cause," said Jeff Donaldson, Killian's brand manager. "Killian's is a perfect fit for the Irish spirited festivities during St. Patrick's Day. At the same time, we felt strongly about leveraging this year's festivities to do some good."

Runners participating in any of the Killian's races can enjoy a free pint of Killian's Irish Red post-race at the Killian's Beer Garden and stay for an Irish celebration. Afterward, runners can show their race bibs at participating pubs, bars and restaurants in each race city and receive more Killian's specials.

Killian's is working with a national marketing services company, The Active Sports Marketing Group - part of The Active Network (www.theactivenetwork.com) - to coordinate the race sponsorships, manage the onsite festivities and work with local establishments to secure Killian's specials for participants.

Runners can register now for any of the ten St. Patrick's Day races. Online registration is available at each race's Web site. The race series includes:

About Killian's
The Killian's Irish Red recipe dates back to 1864, when George Killian's great grandfather first brewed the amber liquid in Enniscorthy, Ireland. Coors Brewing Company acquired the rights to brew and market the product in the United States in 1981. Killian's Irish Red derives its distinctive red amber color and taste from special caramel malt that has been roasted at a high temperature longer and more slowly than most malt. The long brewing time (fermenting, aging, etc.) works to smooth out the flavor. There are absolutely no coloring agents or artificial additives of any kind used in brewing Killian's.
