Triathlon: Philadelphia triathlete races to raise funds for victims’ children

UPPER DARBY, Penn. – (February 16, 2004) Philadelphia area triathlete Steve Brown is once again using racing as a way of giving something back, and making a difference in the lives of others. Brown, an 18-year multisport veteran, will be using his participation in this year’s inaugural ChesapeakeMan Triathlon as a platform to raise funds for the children of recently killed Frank and Trina Carosi.

The Carosi parents were killed when their pick up truck was hit head on, November 16, 2003, while driving in Delaware. They left behind three children, Kim, 19, Amanda, 17, and Frankie, 12, now saddled with the incomprehensible task of trying to pick up the pieces and move on without their parents. Brown volunteered with the Carosi family for the Upper Darby, Penn., school district music programs. Frank Carosi was the president of the parent volunteer organization.

Brown, an Upper Darby, Penn. Resident, is married and the father of two daughters. He is employed by PFPC, Inc., a subsidiary of PNC Bank, in King of Prussia, Penn. Brown is no stranger to racing for causes. Whenever possible, he targets key events throughout the year as a way of raising funds or awareness to help others. Brown is also the national news editor for TransitionTimes.com, one of the world’s leading triathlon specific on-line news sources, and an executive board member of TriState Multisport Association.

The ChesapeakeMan Triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run, is the USATriathlon Mid Atlantic Region Ultra-Distance Championship and will be held on October 9, 2004, in Cambridge, Md.

Donations can be sent to Ann Travis, Upper Darby High School, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Checks should be written to Upper Darby School District, with “Carosi Fund” in the memo section.
