Triathlon: Pharmanex MXT to Offer $10,000 Purse

2nd Annual Pharmanex MXT — World’s First, Biggest, and Best Off-Road Iron-Distance Triathlon — July 9, 2004

Park City Utah, February 18, 2004 — As traditional triathlons feel more and more generic, some triathletes are starting to look for more adventure —and more fun — in their events. On July 9, a lucky group of 250 will gather in Park City Utah to embark on the most intense, entertaining, excruciating, friendly, and demanding race of their lives: the Second Annual Pharmanex MXT — the world’s first, biggest, and best off-road, iron-distance triathlon. And this time, the pot has been considerably sweetened, because title sponsor Pharmanex has committed a $10,000 prize purse to the event.

Building on Success
Last year’s inaugural MXT was an incredible success. Racers immediately fell in love with their custom wood plaque race numbers, the stirring spectacle of skydivers with giant American flags coming down from the sky during the national anthem, the lodgepole MXT archway, an exquisite course, barbecue chicken at key aid stations, and the nicest racers — and race promoters — you’ll ever meet.
Says Andrew Adamowski, overall winner of the 2003 Pharmanex MXT, “The MTB course was great. For fifty miles on the first loop, we were up above the ski areas at an altitude around 9,000 feet, on trails that were not much wider than your handlebars at times. And the experience of casually stopping and enjoying a tasty piece of BBQ chicken and some potato chips 101 miles into an incredibly tough race is something I’ll never forget.” Other racers — strangers only hours before — formed strong bonds of friendship, making pacts to cross the finish line together.
Ask anyone who’s done the MXT: This is not just another triathlon. And it’s not different just because it’s more challenging than any other tri-sport event. It’s different because it’s got heart.

With a purse of $10,000 up for grabs, the 2004 Pharmanex MXT is sure to get the attention of pros and elite athletes ready to see what they’ve got. Registration is open now, but is capped at 250, so racers will want to commit early and start training now.

Registration: Go to www.mxtri.com for course details, registration costs, to sign up for the racers’ newsletter, and more.

Where and When: The Pharmanex MXT will be centered around Park City, Utah, home to many 2002 Olympic ski events, the annual Sundance Film Festival, and world-famous mountain biking. The race begins July 9 at 6 a.m., with a final cutoff time of 24 hours.

Tandem and Relay Teams: Not everyone is ready to do this race on their own, so race organizers have created tandem and relay team categories.
