Athletics: Indiana Invaders' Yeldell Hits National Mark

(INDIANAPOLIS) Invaders' Greg Yeldell hit the national qualifying mark for the 2004 USATF Indoor National Championships with his win in the triple jump (15.45) at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, hosted by Indiana University on February 20, 2004.

Yeldell, a three-time member of the US National Team, is a 2004 US Olympic Trials Qualifier and was 13th at the USA Outdoor Championships in 2003. Yeldell also won the gold medal in the triple jump at the Pan American Games in 1999.

Teammates Adrian Swanson won the 400 (48.22), Amber Plowden was runner-up in the 60 (7.54), and Natasha Lothery was second in the 800 (2:14.79).

In action at the Kent State Tune-up meet, hosted by Kent State University, the Invaders' Sharline Maxwell-Divis won the 400 (55.12) and finished second in the 200 (24.99). Olympic Trials Qualifier, Jacob Koczman, was second in the 800 (1:50.67) with Eddie Nehus in third (1:51.41) and Daniel Walden (1:52.49). Jamey Sperle was third in the 200 (21.65) and fourth in the 55 meters (6.45).

Team Director Greg Harger said, "This was a relatively low-key weekend as we head into next weekend's indoor national championship in Boston. Yeldell in reality was evaluating his fitness in preparation for the outdoor season with short approach jumps." Harger added, "Those headed to Boston are ready to go."

Currently, nine Invaders are qualified for Indoor Nationals - Zack Riley (WT), Hope Sanders (800), Carri Long (HJ), Adam Shunk (HJ), Shannon Gallagher (PV), Francesca Green (LJ), Greg Yeldell (TJ), Brandon Hon (60H), and Alex Sprague (Heptathlon).
