Athletics: Woods, McVicar Win $1,000 Scholarships

Mike Woods of Ottawa and Lisa McVicar of Kanata are the inaugural winners of the National Capital Race Weekend/National Capital Runners Association Award for Excellence in Athleticism.

The scholarships, which are valued at $1,000 each, were scheduled to be presented at a ceremony today at Carleton University.

Woods, a world-ranked junior 3,000-metre runner who will attend the world cross-country running championship next month, and McVicar, the girls under-19 overall champion on the 2003 Ottawa Road Running Series, won the awards based on athletic ability, financial need, volunteerism and prospects for the future.
