Multisport: New Owner of 5430 Triathlon & Duathlon Boulder, CO (February 27, 2004) -- Boulder's 5430 Triathlon & Duathlon, an annual race for the past three years, is positioned for significant growth resulting from the recent ownership change, from Beth Spiegel to Barry Siff of Boulder. The third consecutive season of the Boulder "Stroke and Stride", a 10-series event, will continue to take place as scheduled in 2004. In commenting about the ownership change, Beth Spiegel, founder of the race, explains: "The 5430 is a terrific event, and one which I had the privilege of establishing as an annual race. With this ownership change, the 5430 is set to go to the next level, and I really believe Barry is committed and very capable of doing just that." The 5430 Triathlon consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run. It may be done individually or as a relay team. The 5430 Duathlon consists of a 6.5-mile run, 56-mile bike, and 6.5- mile run. Siff, a former Ironman competitor and, most recently, a full-time adventure racer, is not a newcomer to sports event management. Since 1998, he has directed over 25 multi-sport events including winter triathlons, the Scott Tinley Dirty Adventures, and numerous adventure races and camps. Taking charge of the 5430 is a dream come true. "Race participants tell us that the half Ironman is a wonderful distance. To hold it here in Boulder, the undisputable "Mecca of multi and endurance sports", is a win-win combination," added Siff. In raising the status of the 5430 toward becoming a premier U.S. event, Siff plans to offer prize money, align with a coaching program for interested entrants, expand the event's Duathlon and expo, and generate local and national media interest. The event website is at: www.5430tri.com. From Barry Siff, 5430 Triathlon
