Multisport: Carmichael Training Systems and Nike Team Up

CTS Will Exclusively Endorse Nike’s Official Monitoring Products

Colorado Springs, CO- Carmichael Training Systems appointed Nike as their exclusive Official Timing and Human Performance Metrics Provider, stamping their seal of approval on these crucial training tools for athletes. Now, two heavyweights in the athletic arena: Chris Carmichael of CTS --coach to five-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong--and Nike, the leader in athletic gear and equipment, will be teamed together through this endorsement.

“Nike Timing is clearly committed to designing heart rate monitors based on insights from the athletes who use them,” says Carmichael, who has seen and tried virtually every heart monitoring system in his 20+ years of professional cycling and coaching. “When you are a Tour de France Champion or a recreational athlete, a heart rate monitor is an extremely important training tool; the information it provides is as valuable as proper nutrition is to an athlete’s performance.” He adds, “Nike, with their proven track record, is a company we can trust to create only the best-researched and highest-quality products. And they have.”

He must trust Nike’s monitors, since he’s using them to train Lance Armstrong for win #6 in this year’s Tour de France. As the man who is known for being meticulous to a “T” with his training regimen as he prepares year-round for the Tour, there is little room in Lances’ training life for error. He needs the accurate heart rate and pace information, target training ranges, and programmable pace and HR training ranges that all Nike’s models--from the Triax Elite SDM to the Triax C8--provide. With Carmichael’s guidance, they set goals, build training plans, log workouts, and analyze results with this complete monitoring device, and better yet, the ergonomic chest transmitter is designed to stay out of Lance’s way and do its job without making a statement. Nike’s devices help him to get where he needs to go.

Nike is thrilled to have CTS endorse their products. Chris Robinette, Product Director at Nike Timing, believes “Chris Carmichael and the network of coaches at CTS are the best in the business when it comes to smart training. Their expertise will be invaluable to our mission of bringing innovation and inspiration to athletes.”

But they aren’t the only ones excited about this newly-formed partnership with Carmichael Training Systems and the likes of Lance Armstrong. For CTS, it’s an opportunity to provide the best products to all of their coached athletes, whether that’s a century rider, a mom with three kids training for her first triathlon, or Olympic hopefuls gearing up for this summer’s Games. As part of the endorsement, all CTS coaches will wear and use Nike monitors, provide product feedback to Nike, and encourage their athletes to use the products. CTS will also sell and promote the monitors in their ProShop. It’s a win-win situation for both CTS and Nike, teaming up the premier world-class coaches of Carmichael Training Systems with the premier producer of athletic equipment. Together, they’ll get athletes “where they need to go.”

Carmichael Training Systems, founded in 1999, is a community of athletes and coaches dedicated to improving the performance and lives of athletes of all levels and disciplines. Led by Chris Carmichael, CTS brings coaching expertise, product advice and endurance sports information to the athletic community via the Internet (www.trainright.com ) and through personal training camps and clinics. CTS works with a wide variety of athletes including five-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, 2000 Triathlon Olympic Gold Medalist Simon Whitfield, Montreal Canadiens Captain Saku Koivu, 2001 Mountain Bike World Champion Alison Dunlap, World Record Swimmer Ed Moses and Indy Car racer Eliseo Salazar.
