Triathlon: Ready For The Kids...

With only two weeks until Andrew Stanfield starts his endurance journey to raise $100,000 for the K.I.D.S. Foundation, one would assume he is starting to get nervous about what lies ahead. In fact Andrew is excited, and despite the wet weather in Sydney over the past weeks he will arrive in Ballarat in great shape, ready and willing for the week's events.

"I am certainly looking forward to the challenge ahead of me," Andrew said. "There are a lot of unknowns at this point of time and a lot of questions yet to be answered. Has the training been enough? Has the training been the right type? How can I consume enough calories each day? How will I feel day after day? The one thing I do know is that I will arrive in Forster and when I do I will have achieved what I set out to do. I am looking forward to Ironman Australia."

Andrew is attempting to complete five Ironman triathlons (3.8km Swim, 180km Cycle, 42.2km Run) in five consecutive days to raise funds for the K.I.D.S. Foundation, the official charity of the Snap Ironman Australia triathlon. 40-year-old Andrew will be joined by K.I.D.S. Road to Ironman Australia participants and begins his quest on Sunday March 28, 2004 in Ballarat and finishes in Forster NSW, just in time to compete in his 10th Snap Ironman Australia triathlon.

The event aims to raise the community's awareness of the importance of the K.I.D.S. Foundation as well as educate them about the benefits of staying fit and healthy through triathlon. The support Andrew has received from both triathlon and the wider community has been overwhelming.

"The support from the triathlon community has been sensational. It is a humbling experience to be on the receiving end of so much support, encouragement and goodwill. It is so good to see the positive side of life. Every night we see the bad news on the TV - I am fortunate to see so much good from so many people."
