Posted: March 19, 2004 Athletics: Weather Likely To Be A Big Factor At World XC From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com BRUSSELS (19-Mar) -- The unseasonably warm conditions seen earlier in the week here have been replaced by whipping winds, rain and much colder temperatures. Indeed, at the race course today in Ossegem Park in Laken this afternoon the winds were so strong that pedestrians had to lean against it's force just to walk forward. Rain is expected tonight and tomorrow, with strong winds of 29 mph (47 kph). Temperatures will rise to the mid-50's F (12-13 C), but the combination of all the elements should make the course slow, and the athletes feel cold. "It's a challenging and strength course," said top U.S. entrant Bob Kennedy, the U.S. record holder for 3000m and 5000m. "It rolls and there aren't any speed sections and if it gets wet it will get even worse," he added. Subscribe to Race Results Weekly: www.raceresultsweekly.com.
