Athletics: LIVE to Headline 2004 Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Concert

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - (March 23, 2004) - LIVE, a band that came of age in the early 90s, one of rock music's most creative periods, will headline the Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon post-race concert at Coors Amphitheatre on June 6, 2004.

The concert culminates a weekend of running and music featuring 20,000 runners and more than 40 live bands positioned along the 26.2-mile marathon course.

LIVE will take the stage at 8pm at the 20,000-seat, open-air facility in Chula Vista, Calif. The concert gates will open at 5:30pm with a special guest performing at 6:30pm.

All race participants and volunteers receive complimentary entry to the concert. Reserved and general admission tickets for the concert can be purchased through all TicketMaster locations, charge-by-phone at 619/220-TIXS (8497) or at www.ticketmaster.com.

With nearly 20 million albums sold, LIVE continues to be a solid force around the world. Their successes include two No. 1 albums on the Billboard Top 200 album chart (Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi), five No. 1 singles, nine Top 10 singles and No. 1 albums in Australia, Holland, South Africa, Canada, Belgium and New Zealand.

LIVE's new album, Birds of Pray, is a collection of 13 songs that reflect not only the instinctive playing of the band that grew up together but also a generous amount of time allotted for songwriting. Band members include writer/singer Ed Kowalczyk, guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey.

"I didn't have to worry about deadlines, and I think you can hear that in the record," said songwriter Kowalczyk. "We have a complete album that demands my heart and my attention, and that is incredibly important to me."

The Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon starts in historic Balboa Park, runs through the Gaslamp Quarter and downtown districts, loops around Mission Bay and Sea World and completes its course at a finish line festival in the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Point Loma. More than 40 bands and 40 high school cheer squads will line the 26.2-mile course providing entertainment and excitement for participants and spectators. A free two-day "Sports & Fitness Expo" will be held on Friday, June 4, from 11am - 7pm and Saturday, June 5, from 9am - 5pm at the San Diego Convention Center.
