Athletics: Indiana Invaders Capture Top Finishes At Masters Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders' masters team captured top honors at the USA Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, MA on March 26-28, 2004. The Invaders represented by Olympian Sunder Nix and All-American Robert Thomas captured three firsts and one third place finishes.

Sunder Nix, Olympian & current world record holder in the indoor 440 yard race, won the 400 in the 40 year age group with a time of 50.42. Robert Thomas won the 200 and 400 (M35) with times of 22.20 and 48.88, respectively. Thomas also placed third in the 60 meter dash (M35 - 7.22).

Team Director Greg Harger said, "We expect to form a larger competitive masters team element this fall with goals for competitive team appearances at USATF National Masters Championships in the years ahead. Nix and Thomas look forward to returning leading a much larger group when they return next year." Harger added, "As we grow our masters program we look forward to creating and bidding for Masters T&F events to be held in Indiana in the future to help increase awareness and participation for Indiana masters aged athletes."
