Athletics: Johnson first women’s college pole vaulter to reach 15-0

UCLA sophomore Chelsea Johnson became the first woman in collegiate history to vault 15-0 feet, in winning the Stanford Invitational Saturday in Palo Alto, California.

Johnson’s mark of 4.57 meters, 15 feet, 0 inches broke her own NCAA and UCLA record (4.50m/14-9) set March 6. Johnson’s vault also shattered the meet record set by Tracy O’Hara of UCLA in 2002 (4.30m/14-1.25).

Johnson finished second at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, vaulting 4.25m/13-11.5.
