Posted: March 31, 2004 Athletics: Berlin Half-Marathon Looking For Fast Times From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Organizers of the Bewag Berlin Half-Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 4th are looking for fast times. Leading the field will be Kenyan Paul Kirui, who not only won last year's race but ran a swift 1:00:22 at the Roma Ostia Half-Marathon on 29-Feb of this year. He is just one of four men who have broken 61 minutes for the half-marathon during his career. "If the weather plays along, we hope to have a world class time at least for the men," said race director, Mark Milde, who also directs the real Berlin Marathon. Other men expected to contend for victory include Kenyans Christopher Cheboiboch (60:33 PB), Daniel Rono (60:14) and James Kwambai (60:38). Kenyan Magdaline Chemjor, who won last year's race, leads the women's entrants with a 1:09:39 personal best. Also expected are Germans Kathrin Wessel (1:10:47 PB) and Susanne Ritter (1:12:30). The course records are 59:52 by Fabian Roncero (ESP) in 2001 and 1:08:22 by Joyce Chepchumba (KEN) in 2000. Subscribe to Race Results Weekly: www.raceresultsweekly.com.
