Triathlon: Triathlon Association Created to Unite NYC-based Triathletes

Triathlon Asociation of New York City

New York, New York: The Triathlon Association of New York City (TANYC), www.tanyc.org is pleased to announce its groundbreaking effort to create a centralized training, networking and information resource for the NYC-based triathlete.

A newly formed independent non-profit organization, TANYC celebrated its launch with over 150 New York City based triathletes at Reebok Sports Club/NY in Manhattan—communicating its mission to offer an enhanced triathlon experience to NYC-based triathletes of all abilities by providing a centralized training, networking and expert information resource.

The brainchild of co-founders, Giancarlo Giangola, Mo Moadeli, Renee Rosen, and Robert Tas— all New York City based Triathletes with day-jobs— the team identified a need to unite the NYC Triathlon community, and fuel its growth.

“As participation in Triathlon grows exponentially year after year, we saw a need to ‘create a space’ to bring together the many disparate triathlon teams and clubs in NYC as well as offer an easy avenue for aspiring triathletes in the NYC region looking to get into the sport,” said TANYC’s Renee Rosen, Chief Marketing Officer. “We just launched and we already have over 120 members.”

TANYC is not just another Triathlon Club—it’s an independent resource for clubs and teams in the city to leverage.

"We are excited that TANYC is being created as the city's first official independent triathlon organization—we believe it will help strengthen the sport in New York City," says John Korff of the NYC Triathlon organization team. "We are partnering with the TANYC team to make the NYC Triathlon on June 27th TANYC's flagship race this season."

TANYC is also working closely with NYC2012 and the New York City Sports Commission to create a better training ground for NYC Triathletes, and has acquired a variety of sponsors including Jack Rabbit Sports and its Founding Corporate Membership Sponsor, 24/7 Real Media, which will help support the organization’s marketing and membership efforts for a three year period. “We are proud to support the local Triathlon community,” Says David Moore, Chairman and CEO of 24/7 Real Media.

TANYC’s programs for 2004 will include group training and education, featuring weekly “Brick Workouts” and a Mentor/Mentee Program (MMP) designed to help beginner triathletes who want to benefit from the knowledge of a more experienced triathlete. In addition, the organization will host a variety of lectures and “round tables” with industry experts throughout the year. “As we grow, our vision is to expand the services and benefits we offer to and from the TANYC Community and become a true energetic force in forwarding the sport of Triathlon in NYC,” Said Mo Moadeli, TANYC’s President. “We are looking to be more like the ‘New York Road Runners of Triathlon,’ rather than just be another club on the scene.”

TANYC is a volunteer based, independent, non-profit organization— passionate about what the sport of Triathlon and its people bring to our lives. Created by NYC-based Triathletes for NYC Triathletes, our mission is to offer an enhanced triathlon experience to NYC-based triathletes of all abilities by providing a centralized training, networking and expert information resource. We are dedicated to inspiring everyone who has a desire to participate in the sport—from beginners looking for a head-start to more advanced triathletes seeking to reach their full performance potential.
