Athletics: High Temperatures Forecast Today For Boston

BOSTON (19-Apr) -- Area weather forecasters all agree that today's 108th BAA Boston Marathon will be one of the hotest on record. Temperatures should be about 70°F (21°C) at the noon start and are expected to rise to 84°F (29°C) by mid-afternoon. Humidity should only be moderate.

The record high for this date in Boston is 86°F (30°C).

Somewhat mitigating the effects of the high temperatures will be a powerful tailwind, blowing from west to east. Running along the finish straight this morning on Boyleston Street this writer easily noticed the effect of the wind which forecasters say will persist throughout the day. At least one expert pointed out that tailwinds do not provide effective athlete cooling, however. Subscribe to Race Results Weekly: www.raceresultsweekly.com.
