Posted: April 25, 2004 Athletics: Kibet And Catuna Win Country Music Marathon From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Luke Kibet of Kenya and Anuta Catuna of Romania won today's Country Music Marathon in Nashville, Tenn., USA. Kibet, 29, who also won the race in 2000, clocked 2:14:11, defeating countryman Nephat Kinyanjui by more than a minute and one-half. He won a Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle for his victory. "I was reminded of the many friends I have made here in Nashville through the years," said Kibet, who in addition to his victory in 2000, also placed second place here in 2001 and third in 2003. "I knew if I won, I would make many more friends and that is what motivated me." Catuna, 35, rebounded from her DNF at the City of Los Angeles Marathon last month, to win in 2:33:36. Russian master, Firaya Sultanova-Zhdanova, who failed to finish the Boston Marathon just five days ago, worked with Catuna for the first 11.5 miles, but would eventually fade to third. Gladys Asiba of Kenya finished second in 2:35:13. The race started a half hour late due to heavy rain and lightning, and the humidity remained high throughout the race. Top Results: MEN - 1.
