Posted: April 27, 2004 Athletics: Kenyans Sweep Nice Half Marathon
Sunny weather, 7000 runners: The Semi-marathon de Nice ! On a sunny day, Sunday 25th April, the 13th edition of the Semi-marathon de Nice took place. Good weather and the lack of wind provided ideal conditions that enabled the first runners an excellent performance. In the category men, the Kenyan Julius equalled last year's record with 1h01'27', before his compatriots Malyim Philippe (1h02'02'') and Ongeri Josephat (1h08'35''). Among the French runners, congratulations to Moulay Abdallah who arrived in 1h08'35'' taking the 10th place. In the category women, the Kenyan Atodonyang Margaret arrived first in 1h11'34'' followed by the Hungarian Rakonczai Beata (in 1h12'31'') and the Ethiopian Tola Workneth (in 1h13'22''). A participation record accompanies these excellent times. There were no less than 6958 runners running trough the streets of Nice. The three races of this 13th Edition - 21,1 km, 10 km and 4 km - have united professionals, amateurs and beginners through the passion of sport. A participation record proves that the Semi-Marathon International de Nice has reached it goals and more… It is indeed one of the most beautiful races in France. Sport, conviviality, emotions, sun and a good mood: all the ingredients for the most dynamic weekend of the french Riviera! Next year's race will be run on the 24th of April 2005.
