Athletics: Indiana Invaders In Relays At Jesse Owens Track Classic

(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders will compete at the 2004 Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic, hosted by Ohio State University, on Saturday May 1st, 2004. Amber Plowden will compete in Team USA's High Performance Relay Project's 4x100 relay and the Invaders' men will compete against an "A" and "B" squad of Team USA's High Performance Relay Project in the 4x400 relay.

Fans at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic will see the Invaders first ever national class 4x400 men's relay team on the track Saturday night in Columbus. The team contains no 400 meter specialists but is comprised of 2004 Olympic Trials Qualifiers Jacob Koczman (800) and Brandon Hon (110H) and recent USA National Championship competitors Jamey Sperle (200i) and Adrian Swanson (400H). Hon & Swanson both posted 47 second 400's indoors in 2004 while Koczman has a best of 46.34 and Sperle has a 47.00 best as a newcomer to the distance.

Before competing in the relays, Koczman will compete in the Invitational 800, Hon will see action in the Invitational 110 hurdles and Invitational 400 hurdles, Swanson will join Hon in the Invitational 400 hurdles, and Sperle will take on the Invitational 400 meter field. Plowden will also see action in the Invitational 100.

Team Director Greg Harger said, "This will be an exciting weekend for our athletes since it is so rare to run in high level relay situations as post-collegiate athletes. The relays also provide a great competitive environment while providing a mental break that should prove beneficial at this stage of the outdoor season where we have many weeks of hard training requiring great sustained focus before the Olympic Trials." Harger added, "Plowden in particular will gain some very valuable experience working in with USATF's High Performance Relay Project."

Over 120 high school and collegiate teams will compete at this year's 19th annual running of the Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic
