Athletics: College Station, Texas to host 2004 USA Junior Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – College Station, Texas, will host the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 25-27, USA Track & Field (USATF) announced Friday. The USA Junior Championships serves as the Team USA selection event for the 2004 IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships July 13-18 in Grosetto, Italy.

The championships will take place at the Frank G. Anderson Track & Field Complex on the campus of Texas A&M University, which played host to the 1990 and 1992 Southwest Conference Outdoor Championships. The facility hosted the 2001 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, and will host the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regional May 28-29. It is also the site of the annual College Station Relays in mid-March and the Texas A&M Invitational in April, events which usually attract some of the top names in collegiate track and field.

Originally scheduled to be held in Buffalo, N.Y., USATF moved the championships upon learning that the local organizing committee could not move forward with the event as originally planned.

Updated event information on the meet will be posted on the USATF Web site early next week. In the interim, athlete hotel information for the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships is listed below. All properties are located within one block of each other and have free continental breakfast, free local phone calls, dial-up internet access and all non-smoking rooms. These hotels will be the only housing properties on the event transportational shuttle to and from the track. Rates listed are under the room block “USA Track & Field”:
