San Andreas

San Andres Islas, Columbia

Brent McMahon of Victoria has won the May 2 San Andres International Triathlon; Edmonton's Paul Tichelaar was 5th overall. McMahon won the 1.5km/40km/10km event in 2:00.01 besting Daniel Lee of Hong Kong by 46 seconds. Tichelaar finished in 2:02.42.

McMahon's finish moves him into 59th place overall in the ITU rankings but more importantly gives him 45th place overall in the current Olympic selection rankings with one (1) ITU selection event, the 2004 Triathlon World Championships, remaining. Only 47 athletes will earn Olympic selection places.

In the women's event Canadian Christine Jeffrey placed 7th overall in 2:19.48. The women's event was won by Yekaterina Shatnaya of Kazakhstan.
