Athletics: Big Sur International Marathon Receives Anonymous Donation of $15,000

CARMEL, Calif. - (May 12, 2004) - On Sunday, April 25th, during the 19th Annual Big Sur International Marathon, an anonymous donor gave the organization a check for $15,000.

"We are pleased that this anonymous donor appreciates the caliber of the event we create and the community support we provide. This money will provide an excellent start to kick off our commitment to support health and fitness programs at Monterey County schools. We can step in where schools leave off in terms of support for getting kids involved with athletics," commented Hugo Ferlito, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

All proceeds from the Marathon events are distributed to non-profit organizations throughout Monterey County and Big Sur. Over the past 18 years, more than $1.3 million has been distributed to local charities. The next event will be the Big Sur Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday, October 17 on the Monterey Peninsula. For more information, call the Big Sur International Marathon office at (831) 625-6226 or www.bsim.org.
