Posted: May 24, 2004 Triathlon: Wild Geese Update - Ireland's Noble and Kearney do well in France
Both Gavin Noble (23 from Fermanagh) and Caroline Kearney (23 from Dublin) had great starts to their French racing careers at the weekend. They are both racing for Cesson Sevigne, a French Triathlon Club based in Bretagne, France. Carolines team are in the first division and Gavins team are in the second division trying for promotion this year. The second Grand Prix Race of the season took place in Dunkerque, France on Sunday 23rd May and consisted of a 750m Swim, 20Km Run, 5K Run Gavin led in the swim in his race but got overtaken on the bike by the current French Ironman champion Le Floc. He finished in 3rd spot which gave his team the win they were looking for. They are now through to the next round of promotion races. Caroline was 4th out of the water and maintained this place on the bike. She got overtaken on run and finished in 14th in a time of 1.07.04 for the Sprint distance race. This good placing helped her team up to 10th place from 12th in the national rankings. Cesson Sevigne have said they are very pleased with the Irish performances. Both athletes have recently returned from a very successful Triathlon World Championships in Madeira, Portugal. Gavin was 13th in the Triathlon Champs, and 4th in the Aquathlon Champs and Caroline was 18th in the Triathlon Champs. |
