Triathlon: CEO Ironman Challenge Profiles
Here are biographies on the two athletes who will be taking part in the CEO Ironman Challenge in Austria on July 4. The winner will meet the winners from the CEO Ironman Challenge in Lake Placid in Kona, Hawaii at the World Ironman Championship in October.
CEO Ironman Challenge – Austria
2004 Participants
David Perry:
CEO/Founder, Anacor Pharmaceuticals, California
Anacor Pharmaceuticals is based in Northern California, and works with the American Department of Defense to create therapeutics for anthrax, as well as anti-infective drugs for use in bio warfare defense.
Previous to founding Anacor, David started two other biotech companies, and he sits on the board for both. With a resume like that, it’s no surprise he won “Entrepreneur of the Year in Northern California” in 2000.
David lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track in high school, and played college football and boxed at the U.S. Air Force Academy. David has been competing in triathlons on and off since 1993 and competing regularly the last three years. This will be David’s second Ironman (Ironman Florida, 2003, 10:50), and his girlfriend Jessica will also be competing at Ironman Austria.
Stefan Fischer
CFO, NewLab BioQuality AG; Germany
NewLab BioQuality AG is a German pharmaceutical company whose aims include the provision of quality drug control, as well as the development of new biotechnical products.
Stefan’s responsibilities include treasury, accounting, and finance. Previous to NewLab he was with Deutsche Bank AG.
Stefan has completed 5 Ironman races, including the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, in 2000, with a time of 11:16, and a PR of 10:14 from Roth in 2000. However, before he was an Ironman, he was a marathon runner, with his best being 2:32 in 1995. Fischer is looking forward to racing again in triathlon after a four year hiatus, the catalyst being this year’s CEO Ironman Challenge in Austria.
