Athletics: Shayne Culpepper to appear on USATF teleconference

World Indoor Championships 3,000m bronze medalist Shayne Culpepper will appear on a USATF Teleconference Wednesday, June 2 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time/10 a.m. Pacific.

Culpepper is coming off a strong performance at the Home Depot Invitational on May 22 at Carson, Calif., where she won the women’s Chevrolet 1,500 meters in the fastest time in the world this year of 4 minutes, 6.33 seconds. Culpepper will compete on USA Track & Field’s 2004 Outdoor Golden Spike Tour Saturday, June 5 at the adidas Oregon Track Classic. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN2 from 6-7 p.m. Eastern Time

Culpepper, who will compete in the 3,000 meters on Saturday, won the 2004 USA Indoor title in that event (9:00.59) before capturing the bronze medal in 9:12.15 at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She posted the fastest outdoor 3,000m time by an American this year with her 8:55.05 performance April 3 in Durham, N.C.

A 1,500m Olympian in 2000, Culpepper will attempt to make the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team next month at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Sacramento. Culpepper’s husband Alan qualified for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team with his victory earlier this year at the U.S. Men’s Olympic Marathon Trials in Birmingham, Ala.
