Posted: June 3, 2004 Triathlon: Energy Bar Leader to Match Contribution From Top Team In Training Fundraiser Each Year Team In Training Coaches Invited to Join PowerBar Team Elite(TM) Athlete Sponsorship Program BERKELEY, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- At the 2004 Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego this weekend, PowerBar Inc. will announce that it has entered into an agreement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to be the exclusive energy bar and gel category sponsor for Team In Training(R) (TNT), the world's largest endurance sports training program. Over the next three years, PowerBar will sponsor a fundraising incentive program and provide nutritional resources to the organization's 30,000 coaches and participants who take part in TNT each year. PowerBar and TNT also will collaborate on advertising campaigns, consumer promotions and educational initiatives in an effort to raise cancer awareness and increase participation in the TNT program. Founded in 1988, Team In Training provides personalized coaching, training clinics, and the support of a team, to help novice and experienced athletes train for endurance sports events. In exchange, TNT participants raise money towards cures for blood cancers such as leukemia, the number-one disease killer of children under the age of 15, lymphoma and myeloma. Each year, thousands of runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes participate in the world's major marathons, half marathons, century rides and triathlons to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To kick off the partnership, PowerBar and Team In Training will be on- course at the Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on June 6 with a Mile-12 support and rest station. "PowerBar is all about helping people meet their athletic goals, whether it's an individual training for their first charity event or an elite athlete competing at the professional level. For us, partnering with Team In Training, the world's largest training program for endurance sports, is a natural fit," said PowerBar Brand Manager Michelle Arnau. "We look forward to providing TNT coaches and participants with PowerBar bars and gels for use in training, competition and recovery and to financially contributing to help find a cure for blood cancers." "The Society is pleased to bring PowerBar into our Team In Training family," said Dwayne Howell, President and CEO of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "PowerBar will add some 'POW' to our already energized, outstanding group of participants!" PowerBar will celebrate its Team In Training sponsorship with the following programs:
