Sun June 6th: Stirling Sprint Triathlon - 750m Swim, 20k Cycle, 5k Run

Male Senior
1. Gavin Noble (Irl) 00.58.06
2. Paul Gallagher (Scot) 00.58.39
3. David Ogg (Scot) 1.01.31

Gavin Noble wins the Stirling Sprint (750m, 20k, 5k) Triathlon on Sunday 6th June

Irish International, Gavin Noble led the swim out comfortably (pool swim) in 8.37 (9.30 plus a long transition), Paul Gallagher, Scottish international, was on his feet. The bike was flat and fast along Stirling Hillfoots but a little windy. Gavin led by 2secs into T2 but he and Paul Gallagher tussled for the lead throughout the bike, changing positions many times - neither were going to get away.

Gavin ran fast but controlled - 5k in 16.20 (time plus t2), taking around 40secs out of Gallagher. Finishing Time : 58.06.30.

Overall a pleasing result considering the heavy training Gavin is in at the moment.

Gavin is currently racing in France for the Cesson Sevigne club, he recently returned from the World Championships where he came 13th in the Triathlon and 4th in the Aquathlon. Results and Photos at: www.stirling-tri.demon.co.uk .

Trudy Brown and Eanna McGrath race in Cala Millor Triathlon

Eanna McGrath (Dublin) and Trudy Brown (Belfast) from Ireland both finished the recent Cala Millor Triathlon in Mallorca.

The Spanish national championship qualifying races attracted over 200 competitors. With the top 20 qualifying for this years National championship. The Senoritas started at 9.30am and the Senors at 12.30. The race was held on closed roads on a hilly circuit with a 2 lap 1.5km swim, a 4 lap 40km cycle and a 3 lap run including a section on the beach and a hilly trial each lap. Drafting was permitted and next year it is expected to be a ITU points race.

Trudy Brown was 8th after the rough water swim and dropped the pack after 1 lap and rode very strongly to catch the leading 2 girls at the end of the cycle. She took the lead after 1km but twisting an ankle in the sand slowed her to finish 3rd and claim 125euro. The leading girls both sub 36min 10km runners from Andalucia and Barcelona battled it out for 1st. Eva from Barcelona who was 2nd behind Trudy last month in porto Colom finished 2nd again.

Eanna Mcgrath exited the swim in 25th place and after breaking away from the 3rd group on the 1st lap was decided to ride with them from lap 2, constantly staying at the front. He then produced the 2nd fastest run and just lost out in a sprint finish for 9th in a very high quality field.
