Athletics: One Lucky Road Runner Akron Marathon Finisher to Win a New Toyota

AKRON, Ohio - (June 9, 2004) - Marathon runners who sign up for the 2nd Annual Road Runner Akron Marathon and finish the race on Saturday, Oct. 2, have the chance to drive home in a brand new Toyota Camry.

"We think this will be an added incentive for marathon runners to come run what we believe is one of the most scenic marathon courses in the state," said Jim Barnett, race director of the Road Runner Akron Marathon. "In our inaugural year last year, we had just under a thousand marathon runners; but now with the possibility of winning a brand new car, we expect the field to increase significantly." Toyota is the official car of the Road Runner Akron Marathon.

At the conclusion of the marathon on Saturday, Oct. 2, ten bib numbers will be drawn from the field of marathon finishers. The ten runners will each be given a set of keys, and only one set will unlock the door to the new car. Marathon finishers must be present to win the new Toyota.

The new car drawing is for marathon finishers only. Five-person relay teams competing in the marathon relay will have a chance to win rides in one of the three Goodyear blimps. Five sets of two rides each will be awarded to a winning team determined by random drawing. The team winning the drawing will be selected at random from all finishing teams in the marathon relay. At least one team member must be present to win.
