Triathlon: 20 Olympians Set For Life Time Fitness Triathlon

More Than 20 Olympians - Past And Present -- Expected To Compete In Record-Setting Life Time Fitness Triathlon On July 17

Event to Bring Same-Day National NBC Sports Television Coverage, Largest Prize Purse in History of the Sport

EDEN PRARIE, Minn. (June 10, 2004) - Life Time Fitness, Inc., a national health and fitness company, today announced that more than half of the professional athletes participating in the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis are past or current Olympians.

Based upon registrations to date, 14 of the professional participants are Athens-bound, with more to be announced following upcoming Olympic trial events. A total of 44 professional triathletes - 22 men and 22 women - are expected to participate in the July 17 event.

Greg Bennett (AUS), Sheila Taromina (USA), Hunter Kemper (USA) and Barb Lindquist (USA) are just a few of the notable Olympics-bound triathletes competing at the Life Time Fitness Triathlon for largest prize purse in the history of the sport - one-half million dollars. Additionally, Barb Lindquist's return in 2004 marks an attempt to take home her third consecutive Life Time Fitness Triathlon winner's title.

Professional female and male triathletes compete head-to-head for the $500,000 record purse and first place prize of $250,000 based upon the Equalizer, a unique Life Time Fitness timing handicap that allows the professional women to start ahead of the professional men.

NBC, America's Olympic Network, will offer a same-day national broadcast of the Life Time Fitness Triathlon 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST. Separate from the television broadcast, local on-site race commentary will be provided by Paula Newby-Fraser, an eight-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion and one of Sports Illustrated's "Greatest Female Athletes," and Tony Schiller, a world-class amateur triathlete and motivational speaker.

The 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon features an Olympic-distance course (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) on a beautiful course through the Minneapolis/St. Paul parkway system. An estimated 2,5000 amateur participants also will compete on the Olympic course as individuals or as part of a relay team. As with previous years, amateurs also have the option to compete on the Short Course (.4 mile swim, 15 mile bike and 3 mile run.).
