Posted: June 11, 2004 Triathlon: NBC to Bring Same-Day NBC Sports Television Coverage For Life Time Fitness Triathlon NBC Sports To Carry Same-Day Television Coverage Of July 17 Life Time Fitness Triathlon. Event to Deliver Largest Cash Purse In Triathlon History - $500,000; Winner to Receive Quarter Million Dollar First Place Prize EDEN PRARIE, Minn. (June 10, 2004) - Life Time Fitness, Inc., a national health and fitness company, today announced that NBC Sports will once again air the Life Time Fitness Triathlon nationally in a same-day broadcast on July 17, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST. An estimated 44 professional triathletes from around the world, including at least 17 past and current Olympians, will participate in the 2004 event. Greg Bennett (AUS), Sheila Taromina (USA), Hunter Kemper (USA) and Barb Lindquist (USA) are just a few of the notable Olympics-bound triathletes signed on to compete. Additionally, Barb Lindquist's return in 2004 marks an attempt to take home her third consecutive Life Time Fitness Triathlon winner's title. Based upon the Life Time Fitness Triathlon's unique Equalizer timing system, the 22 professional female and 22 professional male triathletes will battle head-to-head for the event's record-setting prize purse of $500,000 and first place prize of $250,000. Some 2,500 amateurs also are expected to compete, including a 12-year-old boy; an 86-year-old grandmother; an American soldier who just returned from Iraq, where he had kept up his triathlon training under the harshest of conditions; husband and wife teams; reunited siblings; and groups celebrating milestone birthdays, as well as those celebrating health after overcoming life-altering injuries. Dynamic Race Announcer Duo Signs On To Provide Onsite Race Commentary For 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon Newby-Fraser and Schiller Named Co-Site Announcers; EDEN PRARIE, Minn. (June 10, 2004) - Life Time Fitness, Inc., a national health and fitness company, today announced that world-class professional triathlete Paula Newby-Fraser and world-renowned amateur triathlete Tony Schiller will be co-onsite announcers for the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon taking place on Saturday, July 17, in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Newby-Fraser is an eight-time Iroman Triathlon World Champion with a total of 22 Ironman Triathlon Career Wins. She holds the Women's Ironman World Record at 8:50:24. Fraser has been named, "Professional Sportswoman of the Year," by the Women's Sports Foundation, the "Greatest Triathlete in History," by Triathlete Magazine, and the "Greatest All-Around Female Athlete in the World," by The Los Angeles Times. Furthermore, Sports Illustrated listed Paula as one of the, "Greatest Female Athletes of the Century." Schiller has finished more than 600 endurance races in the past 30 years, winning more than 85 running races and 75 triathlons, including four world titles. He has used his racing experiences to impact the lives of others through his unique Achieve Break Away results-oriented program as a motivational speaker.
