Athletics: Athletics Canada Identifies NACAC Under 23 Hopefuls

(Ottawa, June 17, 2004) – The 2004 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships for athletes under 23 years of age, will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec, from July 30 to August 1, 2004. With more than eight weeks remaining until the opening of the event, Athletics Canada announced today a preliminary list of top athletes who have met the necessary selection standards to qualify for the Canadian team.

The following highly-ranked athletes have achieved the NACAC minimum standards. They will be named to the Canadian team unless they are displaced by other athletes achieving better performances between now and July 11, 2004; the end of the qualification period. The athletes must maintain their current level of performance and competitiveness, and be injury-free to assure their position on the team, which will be announced on July 13th. All final selections are subject to approval by Athletics Canada’s selection committee. Based on their strong results to date, Athletics Canada looks forward to the participation of these athletes on the NACAC-U23 team in July.
