Posted: June 24, 2004 Triathlon: USA Triathlon Duathlon Update COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 22, 2004) - Mike Plumb of Carlsbad, Calif., will be taking over as chair of the USA Triathlon Duathlon Commission. Plumb, currently the duathlon representative for the Southwest Region, will replace Greg Sabo, who served in the role for two years. "I welcome both the challenge and the opportunity to lead the charge of the USAT Duathlon Commission," Plumb said. "Greg Sabo has laid a solid foundation from which to build, and I am committed to moving our sport back to the prominence that it once held in the United States in the late 80s and early 90s." The mission of the Duathlon Commission is to inspire increased participation in and awareness of the sport of duathlon by actively promoting and enhancing its efforts on the local, national and international levels. Its goals are to increase the awareness of the sport of duathlon throughout the United States by working with regional representatives at local camps, clinics, workshops and clubs. Plumb has been a competitive runner since 1977 and has competed in multi-sport races since 1984. He has been an elite/pro triathlete and duathlete and now owns and operates Tripower Coaching in Carlsbad. Plumb will be working with USA Triathlon Duathlon Coordinator Tracey L. Levenson. "I'm looking forward to working with Mike. But I also want to thank Greg for his service to USA Triathlon," Levenson said. "He has done a lot to raise the profile of duathlon in the United States." Sabo, of Charlotte, N.C., said he is stepping down with confidence. "I have full faith and confidence in Mike that he will continue the leadership and growth of duathlon that we have experienced during the last two years," he said. 2005 Long Course Duathlon Qualifiers Announced The following races have been chosen as the three qualifiers for the 2005 ITU Duathlon Long Course World Championships scheduled to be held in Italy in June 2005.
