Triathlon: Bayliss on Top of the World

Croydon based triathlete, Stephen Bayliss is currently celebrating his selection for the Great Britain Elite team for the ITU World Long Course Championships in Sater, Sweden.

On top of this, Stephen, 24, has double reason to celebrate, as he’s also been included in the BTA’s Elite Squad. Inclusion on the squad enables Stephen to be aided with travel, race fees, coaching and medical and physiotherapy costs, allowing him to propel to greater success. This news caps off what has so far been a phenomenal 18 months for Stephen.

Stephen was rewarded for finishing an impressive 2nd in the National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships in Bala on 6th June, just 20 seconds outside the course record. Although Stephen has discovered triathlon at a relatively late stage in his career, it’s clear that he can progress right to the top. Results such as the victory in the 2003 World Long Distance Championships (age 20-24 group) only support this opinion.

Stephen comments on his excellent news: “I’m extraordinarily happy with this news! I see this as a very important development in my career. I feel confident about my results to date and am aiming for greater success and would love to take a medal at a major championship this year.”
