TWI is the largest independent producer, packager and distributor of sports programming in the world. The Marathons+ program is the official broadcast series of AIMS, the Association of International Marathons and Road Races. The following highlights are included in this month’s one-hour episode: Every year the fields get larger and the times get quicker in the Prague Half Marathon and Marathon, with thousands charging across the city’s most famous landmark, the Charles Bridge. A very special honor goes to the Marine Corp Marathon, winning the “Charitable Race of the Year” award from USA Track & Field. Olympic berths are at stake in the Turin Marathon, in this northern Italy sports capital that never slows down. Top Americans and a handful of elites head to Michigan for the annual River Bank Run festival in Grand Rapids. A race treasured by Northwest runners, the Vancouver International Marathon in British Columbia has many familiar faces. The Circle of Friends New York Mini Marathon celebrates its 33rd running, and features the entire 2004 U.S. Women’s Olympic marathon team, with special guest Joan Benoit Samuelson. Fast and furious in Albany, New York. Marla Runyan goes for a three-peat in the U.S. 5k national championship, the Freihofer’s Run for Women. “Lucky” lottery winners are selected from the drum. Their prize…a chance to run the November 7th ING New York City Marathon. A Marathons+ Golden Moment. A deep international field challenges the hills of Portland, Oregon, in the classic 1989 Cascade Run Off, with the final sprint coming down to Steve Spence of the United States, Rolando Vera of Ecuador, and Alejandro Cruz of Mexico. 4700 vertical feet in 7.6 miles…one long, really long…uphill, in the 44th annual Mount Washington Road Race in New Hampshire.
