Posted: July 7, 2004 Triathlon: Lawn to Compete at the sixth annual Ironman USA Lake Placid LAKE PLACID, N.Y.-Two-time Ironman New Zealand champion Joanna Lawn (New Zealand) will compete in the sixth annual Ironman USA Lake Placid triathlon set to take place on Sunday July 25, 2004. Lawn claimed the second Ironman title of her career this past March, by winning Ironman New Zealand for the second straight year with an impressive overall time of nine hours, 22 minutes and 24 seconds. The 30-year-old has been in the top five at Ironman New Zealand each of the past five years, and in the top three at the Ironman USA Lake Placid triathlon each of the past two seasons. Lawn is expected to again battle four-time Ironman USA Lake Placid champion Heather Fuhr (Canada) for the 2004 Lake Placid title. More than 1,800 athletes are scheduled to compete in the sixth annual Ironman USA Lake Placid, one of the most popular triathlons in the world. Athletes will be vying for 100 qualifying spots for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, as well as a $100,000 pro prize purse.
