Posted: July 15, 2004 Triathlon: Yount Resigns from USA Triathlon COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 14, 2004) – USA Triathlon Acting Executive Director Tim Yount announced his resignation from the organization on Wednesday, July 8. His last day will be July 21. "I have a great opportunity to be part of the leadership team for a national sports organization in Colorado Springs," Yount said. "I am excited by the opportunity, but will miss the sport (of triathlon) immensely." Yount started at USA Triathlon in 1989 as an intern for the U.S. Olympic Committee. He served as Special Projects Coordinator and Championship Coordinator before ascending to deputy director in 1992. Yount acted as the age group team leader at world championship triathlon and duathlon events. In all, he attended 45 International Triathlon Union world championships. This led to his involvement with the USA Triathlon National Age Group Championship when USAT took ownership of the event in 1997. Yount also served as team leader for the U.S. Pan American Games team in 1999 and for the first U.S. Olympic triathlon team in 2000. Among his other job duties were overseeing the USA Triathlon rankings and All-American programs, overseeing the development of national championship races, editing the Tri Times newsletter and handling appeals and protests from athletes. "The USA Triathlon staff is sad to see Tim go and we wish him the very best of luck in his new position," said B.J. Evans, communications and media relations manager for USA Triathlon. "We truly appreciated his leadership both before and during the last six difficult months at USA Triathlon. We have nothing but the highest respect for him and all he's done for the organization." Bill Wengert, acting deputy director, will assume Yount's duties until USA Triathlon’s Board of Directors names Yount's replacement. USA Triathlon is the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and winter triathlon in the United States. From USATriathlon.org. |
