Posted: July 15, 2004 Triathlon: `Equalizer' Announced for 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon: 11 Minutes and 9 Seconds Unique Timing Format Allows Professional Female and Male Triathletes to Compete Head-to-Head for Event's Record $500,000 Cash Purse With the clock ticking down to the Saturday morning, July 17, start of the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon, race officials today announced the much-anticipated "Equalizer" for this year's event: 11 minutes and 9 seconds. Based on past Life Time Fitness Triathlon course results, as well as outcomes of a number of world and American Olympic-distance events, the Equalizer allows pro women to start ahead of pro men by a predetermined amount of time, resulting in a dramatic "battle of the sexes" race to the finish for the event's record prize purse of $500,000. The first through fifth place finishers will receive $250,000, $50,000, $35,000, $25,000, and $20,000, respectively. The announcement took place before 36 professional triathletes from 12 countries at the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon Professional Triathlete Meeting in Minneapolis. Life Time Fitness Triathlon officials carefully determine a new Equalizer each year. For the 2003 event, the Equalizer was 9 minutes and 41 seconds. In 2002, it was 9 minutes and 39 seconds. This year, the event has been expanded from an International to an Olympic distance (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run), resulting in a longer Equalizer time. About the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon On Saturday, July 17, 2004, 2,500+ amateur and professional triathletes from 12+ countries and 40+ states, along with thousands of spectators, will descend upon Minneapolis and St. Paul for the Life Time Fitness Triathlon. Racing begins at 8:00 a.m. (CST) and the event will be broadcast same-day nationally on NBC Sports from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (CST). About Life Time Fitness, Inc.
