Posted: July 22, 2004 Athletics: Olympic Marathoner Browne to compete at ING New York City Marathon Dan Browne, who qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in both the marathon and 10,000m, plans to compete November 7 at the 2004 ING New York City Marathon. Browne, a resident of Beaverton, Ore., strengthened a field of American runners that includes a two-time Olympian Bob Kennedy, and the 2004 Olympic Trials marathon runner-up Deena Kastor, who were announced as entrants earlier this year. The American contingent in New York in 2004 is being touted as the strongest in years. The 29-year-old Browne won the 2002 USA Men’s Marathon Championship in 2:11:35 and solidified his presence on the marathon scene with a third-place finish (2:12:02) at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon in Birmingham, Ala. Browne continued his successful season on July 9, when he finished third (28:07.47) in the 10,000m at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Sacramento, Calif. Comment on this story. |
