Posted: July 27, 2004 Sportsmedicine: On Eve Of Olympics-Study With Cold-fX'R' In International Sports Medicine Journal Praises Dope-Free Canadian Medical Discovery WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- July 22, 2004 (TSX VENTURE SYMBOL: CVQ) - CV Technologies Inc. today announced that the results of a doping-control clinical trial with its lead product COLD-fX(R) in competitive athletes is to be published in the August issue of the respected - International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. The lead investigator for this ground-breaking study was Sports Researcher and University of Manitoba professor, Dr. Grant Pierce. Dr. Pierce headed a U of Manitoba team of scientists administering COLD-fX to 40 athletes over a one month period. Samples were collected and processed under strict IOC guidelines exactly as would happen at the Olympics. Trial participants were tested for all the roughly 200 drugs on the IOC's list. The results of this trial showed that COLD-fX does not contain banned substances. It also does not produce or induce banned substances in the body. The research team concluded that this specific product can be used for its immune-boosting properties without concern for testing positive for substances banned and restricted by the IOC. In their research paper, the sports researchers state that they believe that this is the first study ever carried out under the strict IOC doping control standards to evaluate dietary supplements for their capacity to induce positive doping urinalysis. Dr. Pierce described the trial as a, "...significant step in helping to create a drug-free sporting world. Our results give the IOC and WADA a starting point in examining nutraceuticals. CVT's decision to submit COLD-fX to thorough testing to ensure that it is not an IOC banned substance demonstrates leadership. An IOC study of 634 sport supplements purchased randomly from 215 manufacturers in 13 countries found that one in seven contained a banned substance. Occasionally athletes have blamed positive tests on supplements. Natural-based nutraceuticals could also lead to positive tests. Up until now the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency have had very little data upon which to respond to such claims. They now do for at least one product - COLD-fX." CVT president, CEO & Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Jacqueline Shan says, "We are very pleased about the fact that such outstanding results with COLD-fX will be published in a respected, peer-reviewed sports medicine journal. This is another major scientific milestone for COLD-fX. Utilizing our proprietary ChemBioPrint technology and conducting extensive clinical and laboratory studies with COLD-fX over the past 10 years, we have demonstrated COLD-fX produces consistent, safe and effective results for the prevention of cold and flu through a targeted immune boosting property. We have demonstrated the efficacy in different populations including high performance elite athletes such as the Edmonton Oilers. This doping-control study confirmed that COLD-fX is not only effective but also drug-free for our athletes. The publication of this paper is very timely. When the gun goes off in Athens, we want our athletes to be the healthiest they can be. This will strengthen their immune system and protect them against the possibility of a summer cold or flu. And it's absolutely vital that they know that they won't test positive in a drug test." COLD-fX is the most popular cold and flu supplement with 26 professional hockey teams such as the Oilers, the Canadiens, the Leafs and the Flames. It's also used by the Edmonton Eskimos and the Calgary Stampeders. Many elite athletes like Clara Hughes have benefited from COLD-fX. Ms. Hughes, a Winnipeg native and one of only four athletes in the world to win medals at both summer and winter games commented "Fear of colds and flu... getting sick.. is one of our key worries as competitions approach. It's always on your mind. You're always nervous that you might get sick and you're always aware of drug doping considerations. COLD-fX is a Godsend. I've probably gone through 40 negative doping tests since I started taking COLD-fX including the World's in Korea in March of this year when I won Gold and I never worried about testing positive. The results of the trial conducted by Dr. Pierce was a make or break issue for me as to whether I would take it. Having the results accepted by Dr. Pierce's peers for publication in a scholarly journal just further validates them. CV Technologies is the closest thing I know of to a company committed to pure science." World Female Wrestling Champion - Christine Nordhagen - who is heading for Athens in a few days time says, "I haven't been sick since I started taking COLD-fX this past fall and with my international travel and strenuous workouts, I am thrilled to use something that protects me." Colin Young, Vice President of the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary, the training centre for 300 world class athletes, echoed that view. He said, "This trial and others have demonstrated that COLD-fX is an ideal supplement for our athletes to use to give them a competitive edge against other elite athletes from around the world. There's nothing else like COLD-fX out there, no alternative and we see it as an opportunity to help our athletes in a unique way." COLD-fX is a natural health product for the prevention and relief of colds and flu. For more company and product information, visit the web site: www.cvtechnologies.com or www.COLD-fX.com.
