Posted: July 27, 2004 Athletics: Richmond hits US Olympic “A” qualifier Women’s long jumper Rose Richmond provisionally earned a spot on Team USA’s roster for the 2004 Olympic Games with a lifetime best performance Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Richmond jumped 6.76 meters/22 feet, 2.25 inches on her fifth attempt to better her previous career best effort by more than seven inches. Richmond, who placed fourth at the Olympic Trials, would lose her spot on the Olympic roster only if the trials third-place finisher Akiba McKinney betters the Olympic “A” qualifying standard of 6.70m/21-11.75 prior to the August 9 deadline.
