Posted: July 27, 2004 Triathlon: Olympic Triathlon on NBC Prime Time COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 26, 2004) – The dates and times for NBC's coverage of the triathlon events at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece have been announced. Both events will be shown in prime time on NBC. The women's triathlon will be shown as part of the prime time show (8 p.m.-midnight EDT) on Aug. 25. The men's triathlon will be shown as part of the prime time show on Aug. 26. Elite/Pro Long Course National Championships Kerry Classen (Bend, Ore.) and Lauren Jensen (New Berlin, Wis.) won the men and women's titles at the USA Triathlon Elite/Pro Long Course National Championships on July 17 at the Muncie Endurathon Triathlon in Muncie, Ind. It was the 25th anniversary of the Endurathon, which consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. Classen won the men's race in 3 hours, 50 minutes, 26 seconds. Marcel Vifian (Santa Rosa, Calif.) was second in 3:52:04 and Peter Clode of New Zealand was third in 3:53:24. Jensen won the women's race in 4:21:57. Heather Gollnick (Hartford, Wis.) was second in 4:23:44 and Alexis Waddel (Seaside, Calif.) was third in 4:26:39. For complete results and more information, go to www.muncieendurathon.com. ITU World Cup – Salford U.S. elite Seth Wealing (Fowler, Ind.) was 13th and Joe Umphenour (Bellevue, Wash.) placed 23rd on Sunday at the International Triathlon Union World Cup race in Salford, England. Maik Petzold of Germany won the men's race in 1 hour, 56 minutes, 42 seconds. Wealing is now fifth in the World Cup series rankings and Umphenour is tied for sixth. Kemper Interview U.S. Olympic triathlete Hunter Kemper will be interviewed Tuesday, July 27 at 8:40 a.m. EDT on WFFL (1400 AM THE FAN) in south Florida and WORL (660 AM THE FAN) in Orlando. Reed is Official The International Triathlon Union Executive Board has officially approved elite triathlete Matt Reed's racing for the United States. Reed formerly raced for New Zealand. He is married to U.S. elite triathlete Kelly Rees Reed. Matt Reed hopes to become a U.S. citizen before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He has a web site at www.mattyreed.com. Collegiate triathletes compete in Spain U.S. elite triathlete Seth Wealing (Fowler, Ind.) won a silver medal at the International Sports University Federation World University Triathlon Championships on July 2-3 in the Balearic Islands of Spain. Filip Ospaly of the Czech Republic won the men's race in 1:52:34. Wealing was second in 1:52:40. Also finishing the men's race for the United State were Manuel Huerta (22nd; Miami, Fla.); Logan Wealing (36th; Fowler, Ind.); Brendan O'Brien (43rd; Escondido, Calif.) and Brandon Barrett (Lincoln, Neb.). Kelsey Withrow (Woodinville, Wash.) was the top women's finisher in eighth overall. Helen Lawrence of Great Britain won the women's race in 2:04:43. U.S. elite Caitlin Shea Kenney (Hull, Mass.) finished 16th and Jenna Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) was 21st. The American women’s team took fifth place and the men’s team seventh.
