Posted: July 28, 2004 Athletics: Lel And Okayo Win At Castelbuono From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Kenyans Martin Lel and Margaret Okayo were victorious at the 79th edition of the Giro Podistico Internazionale held in Casbelbuono, Italy, yesterday. The race is sometimes called "La Corsa Pui Antica" because it is one of the oldest races in Europe. Lel, the reigning world half-marathon champion, covered the multi-loop course of a little more than 11 km in 33:46, ahead of countrymen Patrick Ivuti (33:57) and Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot (34:14). Margaret Okayo, the reigning London Marathon champion, won easily over Italian Bruna Genovese, 18:54 to 19:08, over a shorter 5.7 km course. Gloria Marconi was third in 19:20. Both Len and Okayo set event records. Comment on this story. |
