Posted: August 2, 2004 Athletics: Despite 1-2 Finish, Toomey, Rudolph Miss Olympic Standard From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com by Bob Ramsak Jen Toomey and Amy Rudolph swept the top two spots at the Gugl-Meeting Grand Prix in Linz, Austria this evening, but fell short in their quest of the Olympic 'A' standard. Toomey, who raced to a personal best 4:07.44 to finish third at the London Super Grand Prix last Friday, won here with a meet record 4:07.69, but well short of the 4:05.80 she needed to qualify for the Olympic team. According to Eurosport commentators, Rudolph and Toomey, who finished second and third respectively at the U.S. Olympic Trials last month, ran aggressive races in Linz. Rudolph took the lead just beyond the 800 meter point, with Toomey moving to the lead at the bell. Rudolph's time was not immediately available. Comment on this story. |
