Posted: August 7, 2004 Triathlon: Lori Bowden to race at Subaru Ironman Canada PENTICTON, B.C.- Five-time Subaru Ironman Canada champion Lori Bowden (CAN) will return to race at Subaru Ironman Canada in Penticton, B.C. on August 29, 2004. The current Ironman World Champion, the 37-year-old Bowden, has a total of 12 Ironman titles to her credit. She won the Ironman World Championship in 1999 and 2003 held annually in Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii. A resident of Victoria, B.C., Bowden is one of only a few women to have posted sub nine-hour results over the Ironman distance – at Ironman Austria in 2001 and 2002 and Ironman Australia in 2000. Bowden’s time in Austria 2002 is the second fastest women’s Ironman finish time ever. Never first out of the water, Bowden is strong on the bike and relentless on the run portion of the event. In her 1999 championship-winning race in Kona, Hawaii, Bowden became the first women to break the 3-hour barrier for the marathon and that mark remains the course record. The Subaru Ironman Canada course is one of the most beautiful Ironman courses in the world and is a race Bowden loves. Always friendly and approachable, Bowden has become a favourite of the fans in Penticton. Subaru Ironman Canada is the oldest Ironman event in continental North America and will take place for the 22nd time in Penticton, B.C. on Sunday August 29. Athletes will be competing for 100 qualifying spots to the 2004 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii as well as a $75,000. (Cdn.) pro prize purse. For more information, log onto www.ironman.ca.
