Athletics: Thursday Team USA preview

ATHENS - Thursday holds some heavy medal potential for Team USA as three men's finals are held at Olympic Stadium.

2003 world indoor and outdoor champion Dwight Phillips (Mesa, Ariz.) looks to add Olympic gold to his medal collection, with collegian John Moffitt competing as well. James Carter and Bennie Brazell go for their first medals in the men's 400m hurdles, where they will face world champion Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic.

The men's 200m final concludes competition for the day when Bernard Williams (Gainesville, Fla.), 100m gold medalist Justin Gatlin (Raleigh, N.C.) and world leader Shawn Crawford (Raleigh, N.C.) vie for gold.

Qualifying rounds dominate the program Thursday, with highlights including American record holder Breaux Greer (Athens, Ga.) in men's javelin qualifying; Duane Ross (Garner, Ga.) and Terrence Trammell (Ellenwood, Ga.) in the men's 110m hurdles semifinals; and the world-leading relay of Angela Williams, Marion Jones, Lauryn Williams and LaTasha Colander in the women's 4x100m semis.
