Posted: August 30, 2004 Triathlon: National Women’s Race Series Enters Home Stretch One race remains in Triathlon Canada’s inaugural National Women’s Race Series. This event, to be held in Milton, Ontario, on Sunday, September 5th, is the “grandmother” of women-only races in Canada, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The goal of the organizers is to set a participation record, and they are looking for 1,000 adventurous and fun-loving women to celebrate with them. Given their past record, they will likely exceed this objective! (For more information: www.womenstriathlon.com/home.htm) Seven of 8 events in Triathlon Canada’s inaugural National Women’s Race Series have now been successfully completed. With races being staged from Atlantic Canada to British Columbia and thousands of women taking part, it is clear these events are meeting a need - and providing a fun, exciting, supportive environment to a large number of current and future triathletes. Early in the season, Hampton, New Brunswick saw a 50% increase in the number of women taking part in their event, “Just Tri It” - and 62% of these women were doing their very first triathlon. Race organizer Marcia Ross has reported that “Plans are already underway for next year’s event!”, which is expected to be even bigger and better. Shortly after, the “Kincardine Women’s Triathlon” unfolded in Ontario. This event annually attracts hundreds of participants from across Canada and the US, and this year was no exception. Other races have taken place in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, and a report of these events will be provided at a later date. Notably, all races support local charities, and most include special clinics to assist those new to the sport to better understand and train for their involvement. Check the “Women” section of the Triathlon Canada website and watch for announcements about next year’s series! From Triathlon Canada.
